Guardians Clip Red Sox, 5-4, in DS Contest
|
The Cleveland Guardians went the distance and then some at Fenway Park to drag themselves back into a tie with the Boston Red Sox.
It took 11 innings to settle Game 2 of the Division Series, but Cleveland eventually took the 5-4 win behind the efforts of pitcher Paul Skenes. Skenes threw 6.0 innings of 5-hit ball to aid the Cleveland cause. The clubs are now tied 1-1 in their best-of-5 series.
JD Dix came through with a big-time hit for Cleveland. The second baseman smacked a solo home run in the top of the 11th inning to give his team the lead, 5-4. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
"The game is never over 'til it's over," said a jubilant Stephen Vogt, the Cleveland skipper.
Game 3 is scheduled for Wednesday at Progressive Field in Cleveland.
