Chávez Tags Red Birds for 5 Hits
Friday, August 24th , 2068
The Phoenix Downs stopped the Columbus Red Birds by a score of 10-6 at Ricardo Lopez Field, with the lion's share of the credit going to shortstop Nick Chávez. The 24-year-old had a career day, collecting 5 hits.
"Every batter wants to have a quality at-bat every time he steps up to the plate," Chávez said later. "He wants to hit the ball hard."
Chávez did just that in his 6 at-bats, much to the chagrin of the Red Birds.
"Not much that I can say," offered Columbus manager Joe Koralewski. "He just hammered the heck out of us."
Nick Chávez singled in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, hit a two-run home run off José Vásquez in the 4th, hit an RBI double in the 6th, singled in the 9th and struck out in the 11th.
Posting a .204 batting average to date, Chávez has 21 home runs and 60 RBIs.
