Red Birds Edge Boomsticks, 1-0, to Open R2

Alfredo Romano and the Columbus Red Birds opened the Alexander Hamilton Cup in brilliant fashion, traveling to Asheville and shutting out the host Boomsticks at Smasheville, 1-0, to secure an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Romano, the Red Birds left-hander, threw 7.0 innings of shutout ball.
Asheville had little success against Romano and his curveball. Romano tossed 95 pitches over 7 innings for the Red Birds.
"Got a lot of swings and misses today," said Romano.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Smasheville in Asheville.
