Columbus Win Evens Series at 1
|
With designated hitter Matt Philpott leading the charge, the Columbus Red Birds got a road win over the Nashville Nightmare, 6-3, in Game 2 of the Sam Adams Mug. Philpott went 3 for 3 with 2 doubles, a walk, and was hit by a pitch at Flaming Ashes Ballpark to help Columbus force a 1-1 tie in the best-of-3 series.
With two out in the top of the sixth, Ramón Gonzáles barreled up a curveball from José Tirado. The result was a 2-run home run, putting the Red Birds in front, 6-2.
"We had situations where we should have got some runs in, but we didn't get the runs in," said losing manager Matt Tomczak.
Game 3 is scheduled for Thursday at Ricardo Lopez Field in Columbus.
