Thanks in large part to right fielder Ken Thompson, the Grand Rapids Growlers beat the Columbus Red Birds, 5-4. Thompson went 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. The Growlers now have a mark of 65-93.

Had Alexis Hubbard not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Hubbard hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Growlers.

"Winning the game is always the first objective," Thompson said.
