The Ludington LumberJacks downed the Motown Hitmakers, 4-1, at Husqvarna Field. Stellar pitching by Billy Jones had a lot to do with it. The left-hander, who is a two-time All-Star, handcuffed his opponent all game. Jones yielded 1 run over 6 innings to notch the win. He scattered 4 hits, walked 0, and struck out 8. His record improves to 10-11. Chip Johnston got the save, his 11th in 13 chances.
The LumberJacks got a big at-bat from shortstop Carlos González. For the game, González went 1-3 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the fourth, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 21st home run of the season gave Ludington a 2-1 lead.
"Billy kept his poise and got the job done," said Ludington manager Sam Genson. "He was outstanding."
The LumberJacks have a winning streak of 4 games.
