Downs Lose, 3-0
|
In a low-scoring tilt between the Great Black Swamp Mud Hens and the Phoenix Downs, 12-year veteran Fernando Valenzuela was the difference-maker. The Great Black Swamp left-hander spearheaded the 3-0 win. Enrique Figueroa got the save, his 33rd in 35 chances. The 6th-place Downs dropped to 72-78.
Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Jim Benson? The Great Black Swamp shortstop had a run-scoring double in the top of the third inning to put the Mud Hens on top, 2-0. For the game, Benson had 1 double and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"This level of focus will win us a lot of ballgames," Benson said after the game.
