Héctor Cantú pitched well, but the Reykjavik Phoenix still lost the game, falling, 2-1, to the Iowa City Stalkers at Hayden Fry Field. Jesús Gutiérrez got credit for the win, improving to 6-4. He allowed no runs on no hits in 1.2 innings. Misa Stanjevic recorded the save for Iowa City, his 31st of the season.
Joe Freeman's at-bat in the bottom of the seventh inning was a big one for Iowa City. Coming to bat with two out, a runner on 3rd and Iowa City trailing 1-0, the designated hitter reached on an error by the SS, driving in 1 run.
"Coulda, shoulda, woulda," said Reykjavik manager Arthur Ecklund. "We had our chances and didn't cash in."
Their 63-56 record puts the Stalkers third in the To The Wall Baseball Patriotic League.
