Red Birds Suffer 4-3 Loss to Indianapolis
The Indianapolis Indians did just enough to sneak past the Columbus Red Birds, 4-3, at Victory Field. Indianapolis pitcher Bobby Smith, in particular, had a standout performance. The Indians win now puts them at 41-52.

Raúl De La Cruz had a big 3-run home run for the Indians in the bottom of the first inning. With Indianapolis trailing 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he sized up a fastball from 34-year old left-handed pitcher Jim Kircoff and punished it. The result was his 5th home run of the season, which put the Indians on top, 3-1.

Indianapolis manager Mike Leslie commended his team for "bagging a nice win."
