Palmiero Slugs Downs to 5-4 Win
|
A good performance from first baseman Rafael Palmiero helped the Phoenix Downs defeat the Great Black Swamp Mud Hens, 5-4. Palmiero was 2 for 3 with 2 home runs and 2 walks. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice for the Downs. The winning pitcher was Javier García. He's now 4-4. He went 8 innings, allowing 4 runs on 5 hits for the Downs. Cliff González notched his 9th save in 10 chances.
Phoenix used the timely hitting of Randall Martin to seize the win. The shortstop stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Downs on top, 5-4. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We'll relax tonight and enjoy this win," said Palmiero.
The Downs go to 23-66 with the win.
