Phoenix Beaten By Stalkers, 3-2
|
Starting pitcher Rodney Tai gave the Iowa City Stalkers a rock-solid effort. The Sydney, Australia native helped his team defeat the Reykjavik Phoenix, 3-2, at Hayden Fry Field. The winning pitcher was Tai, now 6-9. He tossed 7 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 7. Frank Viola was credited with the save, his 15th in 16 tries.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Stalkers had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the fifth, when first baseman Ron Ford hit a 2-run single. The single came off Sumio Masuda and made the score 2-0, Stalkers. Ford was 2 for 4 with a triple. He drove in 2 runs.
"Rodney has got a slow heartbeat," said Iowa City manager Mark Sands. "He doesn't panic or anything."
The win has Iowa City at 33-56.
