Boomsticks Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Drifters, 5-3
|
The Boomsticks grabbed a win, 5-3, at Superior Stadium, overcoming a fine effort from Dam Site pitcher Rick Rude. Rude went 6 innings and allowed 1 run. Getting the save was Manny Flores, his 15th. The victory gives the Boomsticks a record of 41-41.
Asheville used the timely hitting of Luis Cardenas to seize the win. The catcher stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Boomsticks on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"I like to lead by example," said Cardenas. "I'm glad I could contribute to a good win."
