Drooping Red Birds Lose 6th Straight
|
The Reykjavik Phoenix had to overcome a fine effort from Columbus pitcher Jim Kircoff to win, 4-3, at Ricardo Lopez Field. Kircoff went 7.1 innings and allowed 2 runs. The win was credited to 33-year old left-handed pitcher Naruhiko Kiyomizu in relief. His record improves to 4-0. Raúl Fabián took the loss. Reykjavik has won 4 straight games.
Reykjavik needed the clutch hitting of Tom Shue to seal the deal. The first baseman swatted a 2-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Phoenix on top, 2-1. For the game, Shue had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"I thought we played some darn good baseball," said Phoenix manager Arthur Ecklund.
