The Asheville Boomsticks did just enough to sneak past the Grand Rapids Growlers, 4-3, at Fission Field. Asheville pitcher Armando Borges, in particular, had a standout performance. Borges yielded 3 runs over 7 innings to notch the win. He scattered 7 hits, walked 0, and struck out 5. His record improves to 4-7. Harold Parker notched his 11th save of the season.
Miguel Tejada, who finished 4th in the TTWB in doubles with 50 last year, had a direct impact on the outcome. Tejada contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the third inning to put Asheville up, 1-0.
"We squandered some opportunities," said Grand Rapids manager Kaleb Bradley.
The losses continue to pile up for Grand Rapids, which has now fallen 10 times in a row.
