Menéndez Spins Masterpiece, No-Hits Great Black Swamp
In a dominant outing, Jesús Menéndez of the Asheville Boomsticks totally silenced the bats of the Great Black Swamp Mud Hens, finishing with a no-hitter.

In the 2-0 victory, Menéndez faced only 28 batters, surrendered no hits, had 8 strikeouts and 3 walks.

"Honestly, I didn't even know the situation was what it was until the seventh inning," Asheville manager Jon Papp said. "I happened to look up there to see how many hits we had gotten, and I happened to notice that they hadn't gotten any."

Commenting on the defeat, losing manager Casimir Koralewski had a "pretty simple" analysis of the game.

"The Boomsticks had all the hits and all the runs, so they won," he snapped. "But yeah, Menéndez pitched a heck of a ballgame."

This season, Menéndez has 6 wins and 4 losses and a 2.93 ERA.
