Indians Take Down Red Birds, 3-2
|
Indianapolis went toe-to-toe with Columbus before a winner was decided.
The Columbus Red Birds could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Bill McRuer into a win. Instead, the Indianapolis Indians prevailed, 3-2, in 11 innings. McRuer came in in relief and pitched to 20 batters. Reliever Frank Collins picked up the win. His record improves to 2-1. Eugenio Solís took the loss. Jerry Bailey sewed up the save, his 1st.
Indianapolis used the timely hitting of John Harkness to seize the win. The second baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 11th inning to put the Indians on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
Indianapolis manager Mike Leslie called it "a darn good win."
The Indians now have a record of 22-28.
