Boomsticks Lose Late to Hitmakers
Ke-yue Zhang powered the Motown Hitmakers to a win over the Asheville Boomsticks. The final score was 8-6. The Motown shortstop, who is a two-time All-Star, was a force to be reckoned with. He banged out 2 extra-base hits, including 1 home run and 1 double. Russell Lowery snagged the win in relief. The left-hander allowed 2 runs on 4 hits over 2.2 innings. He's now 3-1 on the season. Fred Hinegarden earned the save for Motown, his 9th.

Chick Gandil drew 1 walk in 5 plate appearances for Motown. The 36-year old first baseman had a key at-bat in the top of the ninth. With no one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 6-6 tie with a run-scoring walk off Roderick Kinnear. It was his 6th walk of the season.

"It wasn't a pretty victory," said Gandil, "but we got it done."

Motown goes to 26-25, Asheville to 29-21.
