House of Brews Lose to Mud Hens, 4-0
|
David Nicholas never let Newcastle get something going. The Great Black Swamp left-hander commanded his changeup in pitching the Mud Hens to a 4-0 win. Jimmy Dennis snagged the win in relief. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits over 2.1 innings. He's now 1-1 on the season. The Mud Hens sport a record of 15-23.
Had Jim Benson not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Benson hit a 2-run single. That made the score 2-0, in favor of the Mud Hens.
"Bottom line," said Newcastle skipper Paul Collins, "we didn't play well enough to win."
