Indianapolis turned a good effort from starter Stephen Brown into a win over the Columbus Red Birds at Ricardo Lopez Field. The Indians won the game, 6-2. The winner was Brown. He threw 6.0 innings of 4-hit ball. The loser was Víctor Martínez. The win puts Indianapolis at 14-22.

Indianapolis won the game in part because of Dennis Smith. The left fielder ripped a 3-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Indians ahead, 3-0. For the game, Smith had 1 double and 1 home run in 5 at-bats.

"I think we did a good job of looking for pitches we wanted to hit and put good swings on them," said Indianapolis skipper Mike Leslie.
