Baseball fans saw a good contest between the Reykjavik Phoenix and Texas Renegades.

With first baseman Tom Shue leading the charge, the Reykjavik Phoenix defeated the Texas Renegades, 5-3, at Flaming Ashes Ballpark. Shue, who finished 5th in the TTWB in RBI with 93 last year, was 3 for 5 with a home run and a double, while scoring 3 times. Paul Davis picked up the win with 6.1 innings of work. He allowed 2 runs on 7 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 3. On the season, he is now 3-1. Vincent Kelly earned the save for Reykjavik, his 1st of the year.

Pedro Montés, who is tied for 7th in the TTWB with a .394 on-base percentage, took Texas hurler Fernando Méndez deep in the bottom of the third. His 2-run home run put the Phoenix on top, 3-1. In all, Montés had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 3.

"Tom leaves the last at-bat behind him, whether it was good or bad, and goes up there and competes on every pitch," said Reykjavik manager Arthur Ecklund.

With the win, Reykjavik climbs to 17-13.
