Growlers Win Squeaker, 3-2, Over Stalkers
|
The Grand Rapids Growlers had to overcome a fine effort from Iowa City pitcher Tony Betancourt to win, 3-2, at Fission Field. Betancourt went 8 innings and allowed 3 runs. Grand Rapids reliever Pat Jordan picked up the win to move to 3-0. Tony Betancourt suffered the loss. The Stalkers fall to 11-14 and continue their lackluster start to the 2069 season.
The Stalkers had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Growlers going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the former first round draft pick Cipriano Hernández came to the plate. Hernández hit a 2-run home run on a 1-1 sinker from Iowa City hurler Tony Betancourt. It was Hernández's 3rd home run of the year.
"We had the right guys up at the right times," said Iowa City manager Mark Sands. "We just didn't cash in."
