Red Birds Stay Hot With 4-3 Win
|
The Columbus Red Birds beat the Ludington LumberJacks, 4-3. Columbus pitcher and Mayagüez, Puerto Rico, native Bill McRuer led the way. Columbus reliever Bill McRuer got the win, raising his record to 3-0. Rich Vázquez was tagged with the loss. Raúl Fabián earned the save for Columbus, his 6th.
Jimmie López had a big 2-run triple for the Red Birds in the bottom of the second inning. With Columbus trailing 2-1 and runners on 1st and 3rd, he got a fastball from Rich Vázquez, who is tied for 6th in the TTWB in wins with 3, and swatted a triple to left. It was his 3rd triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Red Birds ahead, 3-2.
Columbus manager Joe Koralewski praised his team's "businesslike approach."
The loss makes Ludington 12-12.
