Luther Wright, who won the Moonlight Graham Rookie Award in 2064, imposed his will on the Growlers from the get-go. Relying mainly on his cutter, the right-hander spearheaded the 2-1 Newcastle triumph. Earning his 2nd save for Newcastle was Todd Hart. The loss puts Grand Rapids at 3-4.
Newcastle used a timely hit from Vladimir Guerrero to get the win. The designated hitter stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the eighth inning to put the House of Brews ahead, 2-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it made an impact.
"Luther had good arm action, good stuff," said Newcastle manager Paul Collins.
