Columbus 3-1 Win Hard-Earned
|
Columbus and Dam Site played a hard-fought contest.
The Columbus Red Birds faced a tough opponent in Dam Site pitcher Enrique Méndez, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Superior Stadium by a final score of 3-1 in 11 innings. Méndez went 7 innings and allowed 1 run. Columbus reliever Raúl Fabián picked up the win, raising his record to 1-0. Steve Avery was tagged with the loss.
António Cardenas came through with a big-time hit for Columbus. The shortstop smacked a 2-run home run in the top of the 11th inning to give his team the lead, 3-1. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
"Makes our job easier," said Cardenas, "when our pitchers shut the opposition down."
The win puts Columbus at 2-1.
