Nationals Paste 5-3 Loss on Blue Jays
|
The Toronto Blue Jays could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Ricky Tiedemann into a win. Instead, the Washington Nationals prevailed, 5-3. Tiedemann threw 5.1 innings of 1-hit ball. The second-place Nationals now have a win-loss record of 66-57.
Washington used a clutch at-bat from Robert Hassell III to capture the win. The left fielder hammered a grand slam home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Nationals ahead, 4-2. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
"It doesn't matter if you're 10 games over .500 or 10 games under, it feels good to win," Hassell III told the Washington Gazette.
