Reds Top Nationals, 8-4, to Begin WC
|
The Cincinnati Reds powered past the hometown Washington Nationals, 8-4, in the opener of the Wildcard Series at Nationals Park. Cincinnati starting pitcher Chase Burns threw 5.1 innings of 4-hit ball, to lead the charge. The Reds now lead the series 1-0.
Cincinnati used a clutch at-bat from Jonathon Long to capture the win. The designated hitter hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Reds ahead, 5-2. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
"It's the best feeling when you come through for your teammates," said Long.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Nationals Park in Washington.
