Cardinals Score Late to Nip Cubs, 6-5
|
The St. Louis Cardinals did just enough to sneak past the Chicago Cubs, 6-5, at Busch Stadium. St. Louis pitcher Michael McGreevy, in particular, had a standout performance. The loss makes Chicago 84-73.
The Cardinals were down to their last out in the bottom of the ninth inning, when slugging second baseman Nolan Gorman landed a big blow. He turned a 3-1 fastball from Jarold Rosado into a 2-run single. The walk-off single sent the Busch Stadium denizens into a frenzy and sent the Cardinals home with a thrilling 6-5 win.
"I'm glad I could get it done when the game was in the balance," McGreevy said in his postgame press conference.
