No Hits for Pena, Streak Ends at 20 Sunday, July 3rd , 2039 Philadelphia (DSL) catcher Alex Pena came into today's game against the Oakland (DSL) Athletics on a hot streak. He left on a cold one. The Athletics did their jobs well, beating the Philadelphia (DSL) Phillies Red, 3-2, and holding Pena hitless to snap his 20-game hitting streak. The 18-year-old catcher had a few words to say after finishing 0-for-3, telling reporters only that he "came up short." "What Alex did was exciting and quite an achievement," said Phillies Red manager . "It's tough enough to get one hit in this league, much less go 20 games in a row. I'm even more proud of the way he handled the press coverage. He never let the frenzy get to him or affect his play." At the moment, Pena is hitting .326 with 1 home run and 18 RBIs. He has played in 24 games and scored 14 times. |
