Royals Raise Rally Flag, Beat Seattle, 4-1
|
Kansas City Royals starter Maddux Bruns pitched a strong game against the Seattle Mariners at Kauffman Stadium, leading the Royals to victory, 4-1. Nate Bertolozzi picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 1-0. Chad Tepper, who led the AL in saves with 39 in 2035, was tagged with the loss. Seattle falls to 9-7.
The game was at a stalemate until designated hitter Dan Samuell came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Seattle pitcher Chris Hayse, he hit a full count fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Kansas City on top, 2-1.
"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Samuell told the Kansas City Chronicle.
