Royals Deck Mariners, 9-4
|
The Kansas City Royals beat the Seattle Mariners, 9-4, at Kauffman Stadium. The Royals got a fine performance from third baseman Currito Mendez, who went 2-3 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 2. Luis Patino, the winner, is now 1-2. He struck out 10 and walked 3 over 6.1 innings, while allowing 4 runs on 7 hits. The Mariners fall to 6-10 and continue their uneven start to the 2036 season.
Tony Gudino, who finished 3rd in the AL in doubles with 45 in 2034, aided the Kansas City cause with a run-scoring single in the bottom of the second. For the game, the designated hitter went 1-4.
"I'm trying to see the ball big, see the ball up in the zone and put the barrel on it," Mendez told the Kansas City Daily News.
