Victory Takes Cardinals to 8-5
|
Busch Stadium was the site for National League action featuring the Houston Astros and St. Louis Cardinals.
The St. Louis Cardinals got a stellar performance from pitcher Andy Lawson, who handcuffed the Houston offense en route to a win, 8-2, at Busch Stadium. Lawson, now 2-0, was the winner. In 6.1 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 7, walking 2, and allowing 2 runs.
The Astros had been locked in a 2-2 tie with the Cardinals going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 29-year old first baseman Manny Fuentes came to the plate. Fuentes hit a run-scoring double on a 2-1 slider from Houston hurler Gabe Roux. It was Fuentes's 2nd double of the year.
"It was a tough day, no getting around it," said losing manager Houston Manager.
Houston now has a record of 8-5.
