The inspired effort of Minnesota right fielder Rick Torrez was not enough to prevent a loss, 7-5, to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Torrez went 2-3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. The win was credited to two-time All-Star Gilad Benitez in relief. His record improves to 2-0. Chris Knight took the loss. Salvatore Gutierrez earned the save for Los Angeles, his 1st of the year.

Willie Abella came through for Los Angeles when he hit a run-scoring single in the bottom of the fourth. With runners on 1st and 3rd, he hit a two-strike fastball to left-center field, staking his team to a 5-4 lead.

"We ground out the win," said Abella. "That's all that matters."

The Twins fall to 4-8 and continue their lackluster start to the 2039 season.
