Nationals Win at Boston, 4-1
|
The Washington Nationals downed the Boston Red Sox, 4-1, at Fenway Park. Stellar pitching by Phil Sacco had a lot to do with it. The right-hander, who finished 3rd in the NL in wins with 16 in 2036, handcuffed his opponent all game. Sacco yielded 1 run over 5.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 2 hits, walked 4, and struck out 8. His record improves to 2-0. Earning his 1st save of the year was Chris Santillo.
The Nationals got a big at-bat from left fielder Beau Clark. For the game, Clark was 1-2 with a home run and 2 walks. In the top of the second, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 2nd home run of the season gave Washington a 1-0 lead.
"Phil's as tough as he is talented," said Washington manager Nationals Manager.
Washington, now 4-9, is off to a slow start.
