Tampa Bay catcher Mel Esquivel helped his team beat the Portland Loggers, 8-5. Esquivel, who is a four-time All-Star, went 2 for 4 for the Rays. Tampa Bay has a mark of 5-2 after the win.

Tampa Bay used the timely hitting of Ken Steele to seize the win. The shortstop stroked a 2-run single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Rays on top, 8-5. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

Tampa Bay manager Tampa Manager was pleased with the team's effort. "Our guys went out there and put good wood on the ball," he said.
