Guardians Stick Rays with 5-2 Loss
|
The Cleveland Guardians rode a solid performance from 30-year-old starting pitcher Justin Keels to a win, beating the Tampa Bay Rays, 5-2, at Progressive Field. Brian Barksdale earned the save for Cleveland, his 37th of the year. The win puts the Guardians at 75-83, while the Rays drop to 102-56.
In the bottom of the fifth, Cleveland second baseman Alvaro Mendosa had a productive at-bat. With the bases loaded and one out, Mendosa stroked a 2-run single to center. It made the score 3-0, Cleveland. For the game, he went 1 for 4. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.
"I pretty much put my pitches where I wanted to," said Keels.
