Two of the league's best teams met for a late-season clash.

Washington left fielder Edgar Pozas had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Pozas went 2-4 with a home run, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2, even as Boston beat the Nationals, 9-8. Chaz Lee converted his 30th save in 34 tries.

Washington, Georgia-born Tony Guerrero came through in the clutch. In the bottom of the eighth, with the bases loaded and the Red Sox trailing 8-7, he hit a 2-run single to center to put Boston on top.

"This team is real focused right now," said Boston manager Red Sox Manager.
