Giraldo Brilliant -- Fires No-Hitter
|
In a true baseball rarity, Bob Giraldo of the Cleveland Guardians no-hit the Boston Red Sox at Progressive Field and -- incredibly -- still took the loss.
The right-handed Giraldo shackled the Red Sox all game, allowing no hits over 1 innings. However, Boston was able to cobble together enough through other means to outscore the hapless Guardians offense and take an unlikely 12-7 win.
"There's no getting around it, we mucked it up for Bob today," Cleveland manager Joshua Cle said. "We always tell them 'Go out there and pitch a good game and we'll take care of the rest.' Well, he gave us an incredible game and we blew it, plain and simple."
A visibly upset Giraldo declined to speak with BNN reporters following the game. He recorded 1 strikeout and surrendered no walks in a sensational performance that will nevertheless go into the league record books as a loss.
In 31 starts this season, Giraldo has chalked up a 14-13 record and a 4.55 ERA.
