Montano Pops Two Homers in 6-3 Win for Philadelphia
|
Thanks in large part to right fielder Dave Montano, the Philadelphia Phillies beat the St. Louis Cardinals, 6-3. Montano went 3-4 with 2 home runs. He scored 3 runs and drove in 2. Philadelphia reliever Pete Tippins picked up the win, raising his record to 11-5. Bob Giraldo was tagged with the loss. Picking up the save was 31-year old right-handed pitcher Ruben Peterson.
The Phillies got a big at-bat from left fielder Fabian Machado. For the game, Machado went 1 for 4 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the first, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 35th home run of the season gave Philadelphia a 3-2 lead.
"Winning is all that really matters and we got it done today," Montano told the Philadelphia Observer.
Philadelphia's record now stands at 72-80, placing them 5th in the National League East Division.
