The Los Angeles Angels defeated the Tampa Bay Rays, 11-5, at Angel Stadium of Anaheim. Los Angeles was led by 24-year old designated hitter Dan Pace, who went 2-4 with 2 home runs and a walk, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice. The Angels, at 81-71, have now won 4 straight.

Angel Melendez had a big 2-run home run for the Angels in the bottom of the third inning. With Los Angeles leading 2-1 and a runner on 2nd, he sized up a sinker from Tommy Woods, who finished 3rd in the AL in wins with 17 in 2035, and punished it. The result was his 38th home run of the season, which put the Angels on top, 4-1.

"When this team comes together and plays the way we can, we can compete with anyone," said Melendez. "I think we're going to keep proving that."
