Nationals Deck Giants, 9-2
|
The Washington Nationals topped the San Francisco Giants, 9-2, in National League action at Nationals Park. The standout performance belonged to Washington pitcher and Phuthaditjhaba, South Africa, native Melaku Chatha. The Nationals, now 83-66, have won 5 in a row.
Washington third baseman Bobby Colburn contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the seventh. With two down, he hit a fastball to right field for a 2-run single. It was his 87th hit of the season and put the Nationals ahead, 5-2.
"We'll need a much better effort, the next time out," said losing manager Bob Cermak.
