Baltimore Beats Texas, 9-6
|
The home crowd had a good time watching the Texas Rangers and Baltimore Orioles get after it.
The Baltimore Orioles overcame a good performance by Texas designated hitter Jimmy Albitz to knock off Texas, 9-6, at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. Albitz was 4-5 with 2 doubles and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs. Ron Ashcroft, now 2-2, picked up the win in relief. He allowed 1 run on 1 hit in 2.2 innings.
Had Emmanuel Ventura not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Ventura hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 7-6, in favor of the Orioles.
Ventura said the win provided a "big morale boost" for the team. "There's a good feeling in the clubhouse right now."
The Rangers, now 82-67, have lost 4 straight.
