Rockies Squelch Braves Offense in Shutout Win
|
Eager fans turned out for a matchup between the Colorado Rockies and Atlanta Braves.
Colorado Rockies starter Willie Sanchez kept the Atlanta Braves hitters in check, leading his team to a comfortable 6-0 win. Sanchez, the winner, moves to 14-8. He threw 6 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 9 and giving up 2 walks.
The Rockies got a big at-bat from designated hitter Jonathan Neeley. For the game, Neeley went 1 for 3 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the fifth, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 27th home run of the season gave Colorado a 1-0 lead.
"Willie's stuff looked really, really crisp," said Matt Padres, the Rockies manager.
With the win, the Rockies improved to 57-91.
