Angels Rally Late to Clip Minnesota
|
The Los Angeles Angels earned a close win over the Minnesota Twins, thanks in part to Jose Castorena. The Los Angeles right-hander, who finished 2nd in the AL in innings pitched with 215.0 last year, played a key role in the 3-2 victory. Jose Colon snagged the win in relief. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit over 1.1 innings. He's now 7-5 on the season. Jimmy Merritt closed the game out for Los Angeles, earning his 24th save.
The game was at a stalemate until second baseman Ben Harnack came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Minnesota pitcher Berlandi Shorter, he hit a 1-2 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Los Angeles on top, 3-2.
"You get some opportunities, you better take advantage of them," said Minnesota manager Don R.
The defeat makes Minnesota 70-77.
