5-4 Win for Cleveland in Extras
|
The Cleveland Guardians faced a tough opponent in Washington pitcher Jimmy Knebel, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Nationals Park by a final score of 5-4 in 11 innings. Knebel went 6 innings and allowed 2 runs. Chad Klee earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.1 innings. He upped his record to 3-7. The current losing streak for Washington has reached 5 games.
The Guardians beat the Nationals in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the two-out single Robby Barrientos produced in the top of the 11th. Batting against Nate O'Brien, Barrientos gave his team the lead, 5-4, when he hit a run-scoring single.
"I've been criticized for being a slacker, but the one thing I do care about is winning," Barrientos told the Cleveland Bulletin.
