Gonzalez Stars in 7-6 Phillies Win
|
With left fielder Rod Gonzalez leading the charge, the Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Atlanta Braves, 7-6, at Truist Park. Gonzalez, who finished 2nd in the NL in stolen bases with 32 in 2031, went 4 for 5 with a home run, a triple, and 2 singles, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 2. Ruben Peterson picked up the save for Philadelphia, his 11th of the year. With the win, Philadelphia goes to 49-89, while the Braves fall to 70-68.
A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the top of the ninth, with the game tied, Gabe Medina was at the plate when Philadelphia scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Phillies to go in front, 7-6.
"I'm proud to be a part of what we've got going on here," Gonzalez told the Philadelphia Times. "It's a great group and we're happy with the win."
