Hobbick Slugs Yankees to 12-8 Win
|
New York took on Toronto in front of a lively crowd.
In a high-scoring contest between New York and Toronto, left fielder Mike Hobbick was a difference-maker. Hobbick distinguished himself in the 12-8 New York win. He belted 2 home runs. He scored 3 times and drove in 3. Steve Mineo earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed 2 runs on 3 hits in 1.1 innings. He upped his record to 1-0.
Chris Davison had a big 2-run double for the Yankees in the bottom of the fourth inning. With New York trailing 6-5 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a splitter from 25-year old left-handed pitcher Ivan Colon and swatted a double to right. It was his 34th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Yankees ahead, 7-6.
"I just tried to see the ball and put a good swing on it," said Hobbick.
New York sits in 5th place in the American League East Division at 59-75.
