Smith Hits Two Dingers, Angels Win, 8-5
|
Good production from first baseman Mark Smith helped the Los Angeles Angels topple the Chicago White Sox, 8-5. Smith was 2-4 with 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice for the Angels. Jose Colon claimed the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 3 hits in 2.1 innings. His record stands at 6-5. Kory Valiante, credited with the save, is now 2 for 2 in save opportunities.
Had Steve Gibson not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 3rd, Gibson hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 6-5, in favor of the Angels.
"It was a solid team effort," said Gibson after the game.
The Angels move to 66-66 with the win, while the White Sox drop to 64-68.
