Thanks in large part to left fielder Danny Negrete, the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Boston Red Sox, 7-5. Negrete went 2 for 3 with 2 home runs and a walk. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice. Mike Patterson earned the save, his 9th in 14 tries. Tampa Bay now sports a record of 68-47.

Negrete contributed a big hit, a 3-run home run, for Tampa Bay in the top of the fifth. With his team trailing 5-4, Negrete took a fastball from Ethan Roach and stroked the home run to left. His 16th home run of the season allowed the Rays to leap in front, 7-5.

"I like our moxie," said Rays manager Tampa Manager.
