Thanks in large part to center fielder Eric McCullough, the New York Mets beat the San Francisco Giants, 7-4. McCullough was 3 for 4 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Luis Patino recorded the save. In save chances, he's now 1 for 1. The third-place Mets now have a record of 54-43.

Kevin Howard had a big 3-run home run for the Mets in the bottom of the second inning. With New York leading 2-0 and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he sized up a slider from 25-year old right-handed pitcher Zach Nelson and punished it. The result was his 33rd home run of the season, which put the Mets on top, 5-0.

In postgame comments to the New York Observer, Howard said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
