Yankees Win at Portland, 5-4
|
Despite a fine performance by first baseman Octávio Baeta, the Portland Loggers lost to the New York Yankees, 5-4. Baeta was 2 for 3 with a home run. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Greg Bunce picked up the win, lifting his record to 6-8 on the season. He struck out 5 and walked 2 in 7.1 innings, while yielding 4 runs. Manny Hermosillo closed it out for his 4th save.
New York used a well-timed hit by Ettore Brezzi to capture the win. The catcher socked a 2-run double in the top of the second inning to put the Yankees ahead, 3-0. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.
"I like the grit of this ballclub," Brezzi said.
Portland, at 43-53, has lost 4 straight.
